Massage Contraindications

Below are a list of conditions or circumstances that would be considered inappropriate for canine massage. 

This is not an exhaustive list, and there may be contraindications that are not listed below.
It’s important to get approval from your dog’s veterinarian before beginning a canine massage protocol. 
 

Contraindications for Canine Massage include:

  • Ligament Sprains
  • Tendon/Muscle Strains
  • Broken bones
  • Any concerns relating to the spine, including neurological concerns
  • Cancer
  • Liver, kidney, or other organ dysfunction/disease
  • Gastrointestinal disease 
  • Swollen lymph nodes
  • Suspicious lumps
  • Open wounds
  • Fever
  • Shock

Dogs with any of these suspected concerns are not suitable for this course.
