Bodywork practitioners sometimes notice coat changes appearing in areas where they also feel differences in the underlying soft tissue.

This raises a theoretical question:

Could surface coat changes and differences in myofascial tissue be related in some way?

At this point, there are no scientific studies testing a relationship between myofascial tissue behavior and coat pattern changes in dogs. This should therefore be treated as a theoretical model rather than an established physiological finding.

Still, the idea is not unreasonable from a structural perspective.

A dog’s coat, skin, fascia, and muscle are not isolated from each other. They exist as continuous layers linked through connective tissue.
